United Tribes of North Carolina is a nonprofit corporation established in 1975 to provide greater coordination and unity among the Indian tribes and organizations of the state, to promote educational, economic, religious, charitable and cultural activities for Indian people, and to increase and to increase economic prosperity for Indians of North Carolina.
United Tribes of North Carolina provides Indian tribes and organizations with a unique vehicle to address common interests and pursuits at the local, state and national levels. United Tribes is an IRS Tax Exempt, 501 (C) (3) agency and all contributions by individuals, corporations or organizations are tax deductible.
United Tribes of North Carolina is directed by a Board of 13 Members who are representatives of the state recognized Indian tribes and organizations of North Carolina. United Tribes has sponsored the North Carolina Indian Unity Conference since 1976. It has supported the North Carolina Indian Senior Citizen Coalition and the North Carolina Native American Youth Organization. Through funding from the North Carolina Arts Council, United Tribes has co-sponsored the 1986: Year of the Native American Festival, Indian Heritage Month in North Carolina and other Cultural Arts activities and joint efforts of Indian people of the state. United Tribes is the sponsor of the Miss Indian North Carolina Princess Pageant, and many of them have participated in the Miss Indian U.S.A. Princess Pageant. Since March of 1989, scholarships totaling more than $140,000 have been awarded by United Tribes to 280 outstanding Indian students during the North Carolina Indian Unity Conferences.
